Scripture Reading: Joshua 2:1-22
Introduction
1. Many great Bible characters found in Hebrews Chapter 11.
2. A prostitute named Rahab is listed here among these great characters. (vs 31)
3. Her life would have been difficult in many ways and yet she is commended for her faith. Why?
Discussion
I. Rahab believed in God. (Joshua 2:9-11)
A. She knew that the Lord had given the Israelites the land. (Joshua 2:9)
B. She looked at the evidence for God. (Joshua 2:10; Hebrews 11:1; Psalms 19:1; Romans 1:20)
C. She demonstrated wisdom because of her fear of God. (Joshua 2:9, 11; Psalms 111:10; Ecclesiastes 12:13; Matthew 10:28)
II. Rahab confessed her faith in God. (Joshua 2:11)
A. The Lord your God is God. (Joshua 2:11)
B. God is in heaven above and in earth beneath. (Joshua 2:11; Jeremiah 23:23)
D. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 10:32)
III. Rahab loved her family. (Joshua 2:12-13)
A. Rahab wanted salvation for her family. (Joshua 2:13)
B. Honor thy father and thy mother. (Ephesians 6:2)
C. Love the brotherhood. (1 Peter 2:17)
IV. Rahab was obedient. (Joshua 2:21; James 2:25)
A. According to your words so be it. (Joshua 2:21)
B. Bind this line of scarlet thread in the window. (2:18)
C. She bound the line of scarlet thread in the window. (2:21)
D. To obey is better than sacrifice. (1 Samuel 15:22; Hebrews 5:9)
Conclusion
God can save anyone who will come to him in faith and obedience and can place him or her in extraordinary places. Matthew 1:5
