Introduction
A. Of all the gifts that God has given to man, life must be reckoned among the most precious.
B. We are born with an innate drive to preserve our lives.
Discussion
I. Death is the consequence we all deserve.
A. Death is the wage that sin pays (Romans 6:23; 1:32).
B. We are all guilty of sin (Romans 3:22–23; 5:12).
II. Life is God’s gift to the faithful.
A. God alone has the remarkable ability not only to give life, but also to restore it (Romans 1:4; 4:17).
B. Eternal life is of no cost to us; it is a gift from God (Romans 5:17–18; 6:23).
C. By faith we become free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2–3; 6:22).
III. How do we receive God’s gift of life?
A. First we must die to sin (Romans 6:1–2).
B. We must be baptized into Christ’s death (Romans 6:3).
C. We must live henceforth as slaves to righteousness (Romans 6:4–5, 8–23).
D. We must walk in the spirit instead of the flesh (Romans 6:4; 8:1–5, 11–17).
Conclusion
A. We must live this new life in view of the fact that it can be forfeited (Genesis 2:7, 17).
