Scripture Reading: Habakkuk 1:5
Introduction
A. Did you ever experience something that seemed so unlikely that you couldn’t have believed it unless you were there?
B. As Paul traveled and preached, the very ones who should have believed were often the most unwilling to do so, even when God had spent generations at work in their midst.
Discussion
I. Throughout Israel’s history we can see God at work.
A. We see Him at work during the exodus and the conquest of Canaan (Acts 13:17–19).
B. We see Him at work during the days of the judges and prophets (v 20) and the reign of David (vv 21–22).
C. In Antioch, Paul explains that God has completed His magnificent work in Jesus (vv 23–29).
II. God was still at work in Israel.
A. God’s work was unfathomable (Philippians 2:5–8; Romans 11:33).
B. For many, God’s work was unbelievable (Acts 13:41).
C. For all who would be honest with themselves, God’s work was truly undeniable (Acts 4:14; 8:13).
Conclusion
A. Do you believe that God still has the power to change lives today, including yours?
B. Instead of drawing back in unbelief, may we be among those who believe to the saving of our souls (Hebrews 10:37–39).
