Introduction:
I. Have you considered how often we use the word, “know?”
A. We use it to share our knowledge and to increase our knowledge.
II. Common knowledge is something that which is known by most people. (Romans 1:18-21)
III. We can know about God but not know God. (John 8:19)
IV. How can we know God in the way He wants us to know him?
Discussion:
I. Must first know Christ. (John 14:6)
A. No one comes to the Father except through me.
1. It is always necessary to get things in order.
2. Following Christ will require self-denial. (Matthew 16:24)
B. The treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in Christ. (Colossians 2:1-3)
1. The knowledge of Christ was most important to Paul. (Philippians 3:7-11)
C. Christ suffered for us, leaving us an example... (1 Peter 2:21)
II. To know God, we must worship Him. (John 4:24)
A. In spirit and in truth.
1. Drawing near to God will draw him near to us. (James 4:8)
B. WARNING: If you know God, do not neglect to worship him. (Romans 1:21)
C. Prayer is an essential part of worship.
III. We know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. (1 John 2:3)
A. Do you know God? or Do you keep His commandments? (Same question)
B. The only way to know His commandments is to read His word.
C. How we read the Bible is more important than when.
Conclusion:
Knowing God is eternal life.
John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
