Assurance of the Bible as God's Word (AM)

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 24:35

Introduction

A.  There are many people, including religious people, who have surrendered their confidence in the Bible as God’s word.

B.  With what book can we compare the Bible?

Discussion

I.  There is no composition that compares to the Bible.

A.  Many have sought to compare it with works of ancient mythology, but the Bible is not myth (2 Peter 1:16).

B.  It stands above every other religious text of all time.

C.  It is superior to even the greatest legislative works that have been published by man.

II.  The Bible is the greatest book ever written.

A.  It is superior in its authorship (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:15–16).

B.  It is superior in its theme (Romans 5:1–2).

C.  It is superior because it tells us both where we came from and where we are going (Ecclesiastes 12:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:15–17).

D.  It is superior to all other written works because it will stand when all others have been destroyed (Jeremiah 36:20–23; Matthew 24:34–35).

Conclusion

A.  The Bible is also superior because of where it is catalogued—in heaven itself (Psalms 119:89).

B.  Men have written millions of books about God and religion, but for me there is no book like the Bible.
