By the Word (AM)

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 4:1–4

Introduction

A.  The Word of God is like a skilled surgeon who knows how to penetrate the flesh and get to the source of the disease that is certain to kill us if left untreated (Hebrews 4:12–13).

B.  It is important that we yield to the Word now, or else it will be our judge on the last day.

Discussion

I.  Without the Word there would be nothing.

A.  It is by the Word that the world came into existence in the first place (John 1:3; Hebrews 11:3; 2 Peter 3:5; Psalms 33:6–9).

B.  It is by the Word that the world is held together (Hebrews 1:2–3; Colossians 1:16–17).

C.  It is by the Word that we have life (Matthew 4:4; John 1:4; 8:31–32; 5:24; 6:63).

II.  Without the Word there would be no hope for any of us.

A.  It is by the Word that saving faith comes (Romans 10:17).

B.  It is by the Word that we are sanctified (Ephesians 5:25–27).

C.  It is by the Word that we are born again (1 Peter 1:23).

III.  It is by the Word that we will be judged.

A.  By the Word that we will be either justified or condemned (John 12:48; Revelation 20:12; Matthew 12:36–37).

B.  By the Word the material world will be destroyed (2 Peter 3:5–7).

C.  It is also by the Word that we can obtain the victory (Revelation 12:10–11; 19:11–21).

Conclusion

There is no escape from God’s judgment and no way to hide from the Word. Why not let the Word into your heart today and let it take effect in your life? There is no need for anyone to die in sin.
