Scripture Reading: John 12:42-50
Introduction
I. The words, “cried out,” or “cried with a loud voice” are often found in the Bible and directed toward God. (Exodus 2:23; Book of Judges, Psalms 18:6; Matthew 14:30; 27:46, 50.)
II. They are also found directed toward other people. (Mark 15:13-14; Acts 7; Acts 16:28; Acts 23:6; John 7:28; 12:44)
III. The word translated, “cry out,” means to call out, to call out loud, to speak with a loud voice, to scream or shriek.
A. Elevation of the voice happens in various circumstances. (anger, excitement, frustration, etc.)
B. Usually the person is speaking passionately of something very important to them and they want, not only to be heard, but also to be understood.
C. Why does Jesus cry out?
Discussion
I. Jesus cries out because this is His last public discourse.
A. We learn from John 13:1, “his hour had come that He should depart from this world…”
B. The book of 2 Timothy contain the last words that we have from Paul.
C. What would you say to others if you knew it would be your last words?
II. Jesus cries out because, “they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” (12:43)
A. Are you kidding me?
B. When you believe Jesus, you are believing God.
C. Matthew 6:1-18 gives clarification to the consequences for pleasing men instead of God.
III. Jesus cries out because of who sent him. (12:44,45 & 49)
A. When you believe in Me you believe in Him who sent Me. When you see Me you see Him who sent Me. When you hear Me you hear Him who sent Me.
1. We can take comfort that His words are the authority of God.
IV. Jesus cries out because He came to save the world. (12:47)
A. I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. (vs. 47)
Conclusion
Jesus is still crying out for the lost to come to Him.
