The Day of Pentecost (PM)

Scripture Reading:  Acts 2:1-16

Introduction:

I.  The second chapter of the Book of Acts marks the beginning of a new era of time.

II.  Much had previously been promised about this day.

III.  It is unfortunate that the significance of this day has been diminished by many who have made it something that it is not. 

IV.  The day begins with a tremendous outpouring of the power of God and His presence on this occasion is unmistakable.

Discussion:

I.  When the Day of Pentecost had fully come. (2:1)

A.  His wisdom is seen in the choosing of this day.

B.  The impact of this day would be far reaching.

C.  The apostles had been and were prepared, as much as possible, for the events described in Acts 2.

II.  The miraculous power begins. (2:2-4)

A.  The power comes suddenly. (2:2)

B.  The power is audible. (2:2)

C.  The power is visible. (2:3)

D.  The power is amazing. (2:4,6-7)    

III.  The events of the day need explanation. (2:14-15)

A.  Confusion occurs among the people. (2:6,12)                                              

B.  Preaching is the chosen method used to explain the events. (2:14)

C.  The explanation is given to all. (2:14)

D.  The explanation is to be known and listened to. (2:14)

Conclusion:

God’s wonderful works of Pentecost are described in such fashion that we cannot just walk away and ignore them. This is the inauguration our last and only hope for salvation.
