The Conflict in the Story is Sin (PM)

Scripture Reading:  Romans 5:12

Introduction:

I.  The story of the Bible cannot be understood without an understanding of sin. 

II.  The struggle or conflict we have with sin is clearly described in Ephesians 6:10-20.

III.  Sin is lawlessness or transgression of the law. (1 John 3:4) It is a “missing of the mark,” but it can also be described in many other ways.

IV.  To understand the Bible story, I must realize three things about sin:

Discussion:

I.  Sin is certain. (Romans 3:23; 5:12; 1 John 1:8-10)

A.  Some may think they are better than they really are. (Luke 18:11)

B.  Jesus challenged the scribes and Pharisees, to begin the stoning of the adulteress woman, if they were sinless. (John 8:11)

C.  Acknowledging our own sin enables us to develop Christian values.

II.  I have to stop sinning. (1 John 3:9)

A.  The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)

B.  Do not be deceived, sins will keep you out of heaven. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

C.  I can stop sinning if I know the devices of the Devil. (Ephesians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 2:11)

III.  The price that was paid for my sin. (John 3:16)

A.  Listen to the loving relationship between the Father and the Son. (John 17:20-26)

B.  Look at Jesus in John 11:33-35.

C.  “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

Conclusion

We absolutely must know all we can about the conflict we have with sin.
