Tabernacle of David (AM)

Scripture Reading:  Amos 9:11–15

Introduction

A.  The problem of what to do with Gentile converts was the first serious threat to the church from within.

B.  When the Jerusalem council is convened, the decisive blow against the Judaizing faction comes from the prophecy of Amos.

Discussion

I.  God has raised up the fallen tabernacle of David.

A.  God’s covenant of the “sure mercies of David” (Acts 13:34; cf. 2 Samuel 7:16) were fulfilled in Jesus.

B.  When the church was established, God took a people for His name from among the Gentiles (Acts 15:14).

C.  The day had finally come in which all nations would seek the Lord (Acts 15:16–17; cf. Isaiah 62:2).

II.  God’s name has been called over Gentiles around the world.

A.  To have someone’s name “called over you” is to belong to them in some way (Deuteronomy 28:9–10; 2 Samuel 12:28; Isaiah 4:1; 63:16–19).

B.  We belong to God when we die to self and submit to baptism in His name (Romans 6:22).

C.  The only name that can bring salvation (Acts 4:12) has now gone to Jew and Gentile alike.

Conclusion

A.  God has kept His word by setting back up the fallen tabernacle of David, and inside there is room for every weary traveler who would like to seek shelter from the storms of life.

B.  If you are would be called by His name, you can become part of His precious possession and adopted family and enjoy the salvation that cannot be found in any other.
