Scripture Reading: Exodus 3:9–12
Introduction
A. When God called Moses and commissioned him to deliver Israel out of Egypt, Moses was able to come up with plenty of reasons why God should call someone else instead.
B. Are we the type that says, “Send someone else,” or, “Send me”?
Discussion
I. There are times that we feel inadequate to do what God expects.
A. Like Moses, we may feel that we lack the necessary skills for the job at hand (Exodus 3:13; 4:1, 10).
B. We may feel that we are past our prime (Acts 7:20–29).
C. We may feel that someone else is better suited for the job (Exodus 3:11; Judges 6:14–15).
D. As long as the Lord is with us (Exodus 3:12; Judges 6:16; Matthew 28:20), there is nothing that we cannot do (Philippians 4:13).
II. God knows us and our abilities better than we do ourselves.
A. God knew Moses’ abilities (Exodus 4:11–12).
B. God also knew Jeremiah’s abilities (Jeremiah 1:5–8).
C. God knows our abilities because He is the one who gave them to us in the first place (1 Corinthians 12:14–24).
III. Let us adopt the attitude that says, “Here am I, send me.”
A. This was the spirit of Isaiah, even though the message he must carry was one of rebuke and desolation (Isaiah 6:9–13).
B. This was the attitude of Paul and Barnabas as well (Acts 13:1–3; cf. 22:10; 16:10).
Conclusion
A. Have we been busy doing what God has called us as Christians to do, or have we been more busy making excuses?
B. If we will go where He sends, He will always go with us, and we may be surprised what we can do when at last we decide to try!
