Peter's Second Sermon (PM)

Scripture Reading:  Acts 3:11-26

Introduction:

I.  Our study through Acts will remind us of how the church began and developed and also serve as a model or pattern for us today.

II.  The early church enjoyed a tremendous beginning through chapters two and three.

III.  While persecution does not start until chapter four, the events of chapter three result in the arrest of Peter and John. 

IV.  A miracle of healing at the temple provides the perfect opportunity for Peter to preach the sermon we will consider.

Discussion:

I.  Peter saw the opportunity. (vs. 12)

A.  The miracle filled all the people with wonder. (vs.10-11)

B.  They ran to Peter and John. (vs. 11)

C.  The people are united about the validity of the miracle. (vs. 11)

II.  Peter responds with questions. (vs. 12)

A.  Why do you marvel at this?

B.  Why do you look at us as having the power to do this?

C. Why do you think our godliness could accomplish this?

III.  He directs their focus to what they should know. (vs. 13-16)

A.  This man walks because of our God. (vs. 13a)                                              

B.  You killed the Prince of Life. (vs. 15)

C.  This man is perfectly whole because of Jesus. (vs. 16)

IV.  Peter’s understanding is powerful. (vs. 17-26)

A.  They killed Jesus in ignorance. (vs. 17)

B.  But they should have understood the prophets. (vs. 18)

C.  Peter makes it clear, “there is a solution.” (vs. 19)

D.  Peter reveals that this miracle, this sermon and this time is for you first (the nation of Israel). (vs. 22-26)

Conclusion:

This miracle, this sermon and this time is also for you and for me.  2 Corinthians 6:2 “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
