Hebrews 11:24-26
Introduction:
1. Moses is another very prominent Bible figure.
2. We will focus on his pursuit of true lasting riches in this study.
Discussion:
I. God’s Assessment of Moses
A. Several statements demonstrate Moses’ uniqueness:
1. He was said to be the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3).
2. He was known for his faithfulness to God (Hebrews 3:2).
3. God was closer to him than other prophets (Numbers 12:5-9).
4. He was a type (prefiguration) of Christ (Deuteronomy 18:15; Acts 3:22).
B. It is little wonder why God chose him to lead the Exodus (Exodus 3).
II. Moses’ Big Decision
A. Having grown up in the care of Pharaoh’s daughter, Moses lived a charmed life as Egyptian royalty (Exodus 2:5-10; Acts 7:20-22).
B. When confronted with reality, he chose to forfeit those luxuries for righteousness’ sake (Exodus 2:11-15; Acts 7:23-25; Hebrews 11:24-27).
C. He went from a royal to an exile in two days’ time (Acts 7:26-29).
III. Moses’ Motivation and Ours
A. What motivates one to make sacrifices of this magnitude?
B. He knew sinful pleasures are fleeting (Hebrews 11:25; 1 John 2:15-17).
C. By faith he saw beyond the earthly, temporal things (Hebrews 11:26-27; Philippians 3:7-8; 2 Corinthians 4:14-18).
D. This mindset put things in proper perspective, empowering Moses to live faithfully despite major difficulties along the way.
Conclusion:
1. Moses made a choice few would make, exchanging a life of ease for a life of heartache as a fugitive and later a wilderness wanderer.
2. The combination of his meekness, faith in God, and his eternal viewpoint prompted Moses’ decision.
3. For his choice, he stands as a pillar of faithfulness in God’s word.
4. May we all seek to emulate Moses’ mindset to be faithful as he was.
