Keep the Fire Burning (AM)

Scripture Reading:  Leviticus 6:12–13

Introduction

A.  To get a fire going, you need fuel, oxygen, and heat, and to extinguish a fire, it is only necessary to remove any one of these.

B.  Satan would love nothing more than to extinguish the fire burning in our hearts. It’s going to take effort to keep it going.

Discussion

I.  To keep the fire burning, we must stay near the source.

A.  In the Old Testament days, God was the source of ever-burning fire (Leviticus 6:13; 16:12).

B.  If we lose contact with the source, our zeal will grow cold or become misdirected (Romans 10:2; Revelation 2:1–5; 3:14–19).

C.  We maintain access to God through study and prayer (1 Peter 3:12; 1 John 5:14–15; Romans 10:17).

II.  To keep the first burning, we must keep fueling the flames.

A.  We do this by keeping ourselves busy in the Lord’s service (Titus 2:14; Colossians 3:17).

B.  We do this by holding up the hands of others (Exodus 17:12).

C.  We do this by staying as close together as we possibly can (1 Corinthians 11; Hebrews 10:24–25).

Conclusion

A.  To keep the fire going, we can’t let Satan pull us away from our God, we can’t let him pull us away from one another, and we can’t let him convince us to slow down.

B.  Are you committed to keeping the fire going in your life? The light of even a single candle is marvelous in a dark room, but how much greater the glow of many!
