Scripture Reading: Acts 4:32
Introduction:
I. Our study of Acts has already included discussion concerning the unity of the believers.
II. However, Luke uses various expressions, on separate occasions, to emphasis this aspect of the disciples.
III. In chapter 4:32 we read, “Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul…”
IV. This degree of commitment may help explain the ability of the multitudes to be united as they were.
Discussion:
I. Multitudes, with the right heart, can be united in Christianity. (4:32)
A. People do not think alike on so many levels.
B. It seems our country is divided more than ever.
C. Important things can be agreed upon.
II. Heart and Soul can be in the wrong place.
A. Ananias and Sapphira had a heart problem. (Acts 5:1-11)
B. “Why has Satan filled your heart…?” (vs. 3)
C. “Why have you conceived this thing in your heart?” (vs. 4)
III. Nothing will be achieved without heart and soul.
A. You will not get close to God. (Matthew 15:8)
B. Your worship will not be accepted. (John 4:23)
C. You will gain no prominence in the church. (Acts 8:21)
Conclusion:
Even if our hearts and souls are not fully committed to Christ, the church will go on. However, in that case, our condition described in Matthew 13:36-43, is one of great suffering.
