God’s Commitment

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:5-6

Introduction

A. As we think about the resolutions that we will try to keep in the coming year, let’s think about our commitment to God.

B. In God we find the best example of commitment that there is.

Discussion

I. God is committed to His children.

A. He is committed to providing for them (2 Corinthians 8:15; 9:8-9; Hebrews 2:6-8; cf. Exodus 16:18; Psalm 112:9; 8:4-6).

B. He is committed to helping them in times of need (Hebrews 13:5-6; Acts 2:25-27; 1 Peter 3:12; 5:7).

C. God is committed to honoring His Word (1 Peter 1:24-25; Romans 4:17; 2 Peter 3:9).

II. God is committed to righteous judgment.

A. He is committed to judging man according to his works (Romans 2:6; Revelation 2:23).

B. He is fully committed to punishing the wicked (Romans 12:19-21; Hebrews 10:24-31; Mark 9:44).

C. He is also committed to forgiveness and to rescuing and rewarding the faithful (Romans 4:7-8; 1 Peter 2:23; Revelation 7:16-17).

D. He is committed to building us up (Romans 9:29; Acts 15:16-17; cf. Isaiah 1:9; Amos 9:11-12).

Conclusion

A. There is so much more to be seen in the Scriptures of God’s level of commitment to His special creation.

B. If God has been so faithful to us, how can we be more faithful to anyone or anything else than we are to Him?
