VBS Primer: Victory in Jesus, Super-Conquerors (PM)

Romans 8:26-39

Introduction:

1.    With VBS beginning tomorrow, this evening we prime our minds for the event.

2.    Our theme is Victory in Jesus, truly the theme of the entire bible.

3.    Knowing the faithful cannot ultimately lose is a powerful motivation to soldier on.

Discussion:

I.    All Things for Good (8:26-30)

A.    Not that everything will be good, but He will ultimately turn it to the good of His own.

B.     One vehicle for this is the intercession of the Spirit and the Son (cf. vs. 34; Hebrews 7:25).

C.    God’s overarching purpose is immutable, so He supplies every need (Philippians 4:19; 2 Peter 1:3, 11).

II.    If God is For Us…

A.    Satan’s attacks are relentless (Luke 22:31-32; 1 Peter 5:8; Ephesians 6:10-18).

B.     But they are futile if we keep the faith (John 16:33; 1 John 5:4-5; 2 Timothy 4:6-8).

C.    Eternity is secure (John 3:16; 14:1-3; 1 Peter 1:3-5).

III.    Who Can Separate Us?

A.    Satan cannot separate us from the Lord; only we can do that (John 10:27-28).

B.     God provides an escape (1 Corinthians 10:12-13).

IV.    Super-Conquerors

A.    “More than conquerors” is one word in the original; hypernikomen

1.    Hyper= super

2.    Nikao, from nike= victory/victor

B.     Literally, He makes us super-victors or super-conquerors in the face of Satan’s attacks.

Conclusion:

1.    Paul’s encouragement to the Romans remains as valid today as it was then.

2.    In light of God’s immutable promises and all-powerful provisions, take comfort faithful soldier because no one can defeat you except yourself (1 Corinthians 15:58).
