[Scripture Reading: Matthew 20:25-28]
Introduction
A. As Christians, we recognize that the primary goal in our lives ought to be to serve God and to serve others.
B. Although we could all compose a long list of things we can’t do, let’s take some time to think of some things we can do.
I. There are ways we can serve in the church.
A. We ought to work in the church where our abilities lie (2 Corinthians 8:12; Romans 12:3-8).
B. We can try to be helpful to those leading the way (Matthew 10:41-42; Hebrews 13:17).
C. We can be hospitable (Hebrews 13:1-2; James 2:1-9).
D. We can be prayerful (1 Timothy 5:5; James 5:16).
E. We can be encouraging (Galatians 6:2; 1 John 3:18).
II. There are ways we can serve in our community.
A. We can be generous (Deuteronomy 15:8; 1 Timothy 6:17-19).
B. We can be evangelistic (Acts 3:6; Matthew 28:18-20).
C. We can be good neighbors (Deuteronomy 22:1-4; Matthew 22:39).
Conclusion
A. We need to train ourselves to be aware of the needs of others.
B. There are so many things that we can do, and there are unique opportunities available to us in every season of life.
C. Let us make it our goal in life to serve not ourselves, but our new Master, who purchased us from our bondage to sin.
