Problem Solving (PM)

Scripture Reading:  2 Timothy 3:10–17

Introduction

A.  For some students in school, the biggest problem is failing to read the instructions and follow the examples given.

B.  These principles apply equally to us in our Christian walk.

Discussion

I.  It is imperative that we learn to follow God’s instructions.

A.  This sound advice was offered by Paul (Acts 20:32; 2 Timothy 3:14–15) and by Jesus (Matthew 28:18–20).

B.  These instructions are found exclusively in the words inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

C.  These instructions will correct popular opinion that contradicts God’s will (Matthew 12:1–2; 15:1–2; 19:1–9).

D.  These instructions will lead us to everlasting life (Luke 10:25–28; John 6:68).

II.  We also have the advantage of numerous examples.

A.  There are some examples of how not to live (1 Corinthians 10:6; 2 Peter 2:6).

B.  Thankfully we also find positive examples in apostles (Philippians 3:17), in the prophets (James 5:10), and also in our elders (1 Peter 5:3).

C.  As always, our ultimate example is Jesus (John 13:14–15; 1 Peter 2:21–23).

D.  We should seek to be examples to others (1 Thessalonians 1:7; 1 Timothy 4:12).

Conclusion

A.  Will you read God’s instructions and follow the examples He has provided, or will you choose to ignore them?

B.  If we will seek to understand His will (Ephesians 5:17), God will richly bless us, both now and for all eternity.
