Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 17:32–36
Introduction
A. Of all the underdog stories that have ever been written, none is as captivating as the story of David and Goliath.
B. One of the best parts about this story is the application that every reader can make regarding the battles that we all face.
Discussion
I. God gave David all that he needed to defeat the Philistine.
A. God put David exactly where He needed to be (1 Samuel 16:14–23).
B. God equipped David and prepared him when others could not (1 Samuel 17:38–40).
C. God gave David the victory (1 Samuel 17:41–47).
II. We all have monsters with which we must do battle.
A. These monsters come in many forms and sizes, but we must remember that we will never overcome them by our own power (1 Corinthians 15:32; 2 Corinthians 1:8–11).
B. We need to trust God to prepare us for the battles we must fight (Acts 7:22–25).
C. We mustn’t let anyone or anything make us surrender or back down from the battles that we need to stand and fight (1 Samuel 17:28, 33, 43–44).
Conclusion
A. Overcoming the monsters in our lives requires that we learn to trust God today and obey Him today.
B. Above all we must remember that no one has the power to stand against us when God is fighting for us (Romans 8:31).
