Learning of Jesus (AM)

Scripture Reading:  Ephesians 4:17-24

Introduction:

I.  Genesis 1:27 reveals that we are made in the image of God, while Psalm 139:14 says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

A.  Considering these truths, our potential must be amazing.

II.  Our personality traits vary widely, but our behavior can be controlled or made to conform to a belief system.

III.   Change in behavior, when needed, is a necessity to achieve our dreams or vision.

A.  Ephesians 4:17-24 provides a contrast between two forms of behavior. One is to be adopted, the other rejected.

B.  Learning of Christ is the key to choosing the acceptable path.

Discussion

I.  Coming to Christ and learning of Him begins by learning from God. (John 6:45)

A.  Gentiles, in Ephesians 4:17, are described as walking “in the futility of their mind.”

B.  Questions about life can sometimes be overwhelming, go unanswered and lead to apathy.

1.  Allowing God to answer life’s questions, opens up the door to learning of Christ and the glory of His teaching.

II.  Learning of Christ is rewarding. (Matthew 11:28-30)

A.  He is a gentle and humble teacher.

B.  He provides rest in a turbulent world.

C.  His instruction is easy to bear.

III.  Learning of Christ is continual. (2 Timothy 3:14)

A.  No one is ever too old to learn.

1.  Paul was always pressing onward. (Philippians 3:12-14)

B.  Renewing the spirit of your mind is the way in which Paul describes learning of Christ. (Ephesians 4:23)

IV.  Learning of Christ develops outstanding character.

A.  We would never want to be as the Pharisee in Luke 18:11-12, who thanked God that he was not like the wicked and boasted of his good qualities.

B.  But to humbly evaluate and thank God for the good things that come from learning of Christ is a healthy endeavor.

Conclusion

The “new man” is walking according to God because he has learned of Christ. (Ephesians 4:24)   Are you learning of Christ?
