Learning from the Beginning (Part 2)

Scripture Reading: Genesis 1:24-31   |   Spanish/Español

Introduction

A. From the beginning chapters of the Bible we learn about God’s power, love, grace, judgment, mercy, patience, and faithfulness.

B. We also learn that our adversary is subtle and divisive, that he twists God’s Word, that he hates man and wants to destroy him, that his doom is sealed, and that we can overcome him.

C. What else can we learn from the first chapters of the Bible?

Discussion

I. We learn about ourselves.

A. We learn we are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27).

B. We learn that we are made from dust (Genesis 2:7).

C. We learn that we are all descended from one man (Acts 17:26).

II. We learn about marriage and the home.

A. We learn that marriage is a union in which two become one (Genesis 2:18-23; Matthew 19:4-5).

B. We learn that marriage is for life (Matthew 19:6-8).

C. We learn that the woman’s role is one of subjection (Genesis 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:11-14).

III. We learn about our world.

A. Things only produce after their kind (Genesis 1:11-12).

B. This world is very different from what it once was (Genesis 2:5-6; 6:5-7; 3:16-24).

C. This world is not our permanent home (Genesis 8:22).

Conclusion

A. There are more lessons that can be learned from the beginning.

B. As we study the Scriptures (particularly the OT), may we always seek to learn the lessons that they offer to teach us (Romans 15:4).
