The Light of the World (AM)

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 119:105

Introduction

A.   In order for shadows to form (like those we have lately been studying in the OT), we first need a light source.

B.  The light that produced these glorious shadows cannot come from anywhere but heaven itself.

Discussion

I.  God is the ultimate source of light.

A.  God gave light in the beginning (Genesis 1:1–5; 2 Corinthians 4:6).

B.  He gave light to the Israelites in Egypt and during the exodus (Exodus 10:23; 14:20).

C.  He gave them extra light during one of their battles with the Amorites (Joshua 10:12–13).

D.  He gave them light through the prophets and ultimately through His Son (2 Peter 1:19–21; John 5:35; 1:8–9; 3:19; 8:12; 9:5).

II.  Man has not always appreciated light as he should.

A.  Israel couldn’t bear to see the light at Sinai (Exodus 34:33–5; 2 Corinthians 3:12–16).

B.  Saul didn’t appreciate the light that he saw, at least not right away (Acts 9:3–9).

C.  Many choose to reject the light instead of coming to it (John 3:19–20).

D.  Instead, we need to walk in the light (1 John 1:7) and share it with others (Matthew 5:14–16; 2 Corinthians 4:1–7).

Conclusion

A.  Be warned that God’s light will show you what you truly are.

B.  Will you run from the light or hold it up for others to see?
